Mary Holden
Mary Holden lived at 21 Victoria Lane, Swinton and was 56 years old when she died on 6th May 1886, she was interred in Common Grave C1205 on 8th May. The funeral service was taken by Curate G. F. Dearden, long time Curate of Holy Rood Church on Moorside Road.
The wife of Charles Holden, Mary (Hodgson) was born in Keswick, she married Charles in 1854. The family were employed in one of the local cotton mills. Two of their sons became Overlookers in local cotton mills. Charles the elder of the sons gained a promotion as an Assistant Overlooker by the time he was 20 years old, sadly he passed away shortly after and is buried in St Peters church yard. Benjamin the second son later moved his family along with aging father to Patricroft where he was employed.

Bertha Corson was 36 years old when she passed away on at home on Worsley Road, Swinton on the 16th May 1886, she was interred on the 19th of May in Non Conformist plot A1608, her funeral service was performed by Weslyan Methodist Minister George Walker. Bertha was the wife of the Reverend John Huntingdon Corson. Weslyan Methodist minister.
Bertha died in childbirth or very shortly afterwards, the baby girl also named Bertha. John with six young children later moved to Stretford then to Southport. He later married Bertha’s younger sister Sarah but quite some years after Bertha had passed away, he is buried with Sarah in Duke Street Cemetery, Southport.
Her headstone was erected as a token of esteem by friends in the Irwell Street Circuit.
The Corson family moved to Salford sometime after 1883 when John accepted the Irwell Street position, the next move was to Swinton shortly before Bertha died. Weslyan Methodist Chapel, Irwell Street, Salford which was built in 1827 stood at the junction Ordsall Lane and Chapel Street, it had its own graveyard which holds more burials than Swinton. Closed 1962 and is now a grassed park area.

Harriet Ann Taylor was a baby of seven months living with her family at 8 Alfred Street,off Wardley Lane, Wardley when she sadly passed away on 21st May 1886 and laid to rest in Public Grave C1205 on the 25th May, her funeral service was conducted by R. Harrison, Curate of Swinton.
The daughter of William and Harriet Taylor. William was a miner, who had moved from Bilston in Staffordshire to Swinton for work in the local collieries. Baby Harriet was baptised at the Primitive Methodist Church, Chorley Road on the 7th March 1886. By the turn of the 20th century the remainder of the family had moved again for work, this time to Mexborough in Yorkshire ironically to live on Swinton Road.

John Henessey was locally employed as a miner and lived at 3 Wardley Lane, Swinton close to the junction of Moorside Road and Chorley Road. He passed away on the 28th May and laid to rest in Public Grave C1205 on the 1st June, he funeral service was conducted by R. Dunn, Curate of Swinton.

Joseph Jackson
Joseph Jackson was an inmate at the Swinton Industrial Schools when he passed away on the 5th June 1886 aged 9 years. He was interred in public grave C1641 on the 9th June, his funeral service was taken by Swinton Chaplain S. H. Parkes.

Ann Tyldsley
Ann Tyldsley was 53 years of age when she passed away at 21 Dorning Street on the 23rd June 1886, she was interred on the 26th June in Non Conformist grave 789, her funeral service was conducted by Weslyan Methodist Minister J.H. Corson whose wife had also died a month early and buried close by.
Ann was the wife of James Tyldsley who had passed away several years earlier, they lived for many years around the Dorning Street and Lansdale Street area of Swinton. James in his younger years was a farm labourer, though his last years were spent as a beer seller. The couple had several children. Some of the Tyldsley children and grandchildren are buried alongside Ann.

Thomas Partington
Thomas Partington lived at 1 Boardman Buildings, Pendlebury and employed as a Waggoner in a local colliery. He was 14 years old when he was killed in a work accident on the 29th June 1886 and laid to rest on the 2nd July in Non Conformist grave 788. His funeral service was taken by the Station Road Primitive Methodist Minister Samuel Russell Woodhall . The son of miner Thomas Partington and his wife Hannah(nee Sharples, they married in 1867).
For the past year since finishing school Thomas had been employed at the Newtown Colliery belonging to the Clifton and Kearsley Coal Company. On Tuesday morning the 29th June he was at work in the mine waiting for a waggon to be filled with coal when a large quantity of dirt fell from a slippery vein in the roof, he fell into the arms of a nearby man, so injured him that he died in about five minutes afterwards. It was stated that the roof was well propped and been examined and reported safe by the fireman before the colliers commenced work on Tuesday morning. A verdict of accidental death was recorded at the inquest held on the 1st July at the Windmill Hotel, Pendlebury by Mr F. Price district coroner.
